"What can I do after B.Sc Zoology?" is the question we hear most. The good news: there are many paths, and several of them are right here in Assam.
1. MSc Zoology or Life Sciences
The most common next step. Prepare for CUET-PG (expected March 2027) for central universities, or apply to state universities directly.
2. Research and PhD
After an MSc, clear CSIR-NET, GATE-XL, ICMR JRF (DHR-BRET) or TIFR-GS to get a funded PhD position with a monthly fellowship.
3. Wildlife conservation
Organisations like Aaranyak in Guwahati and WWF-India offer internships. Assam's national parks also need field researchers and project staff.
4. Lab and biotech jobs
Project Assistant posts at institutes like IASST Guwahati and the Guwahati Biotech Park regularly open for B.Sc life-science graduates.
5. Teaching
Teach in schools after a B.Ed, or in colleges and universities after an MSc plus NET or SLET.
6. Government jobs
Posts like Sericulture Assistant (Central Silk Board), Field Assistant (Veterinary Department) and forest department jobs often accept B.Sc Zoology.
7. Fisheries and aquaculture
Assam has a large inland fisheries sector. Aquaculture and fisheries courses can lead to jobs and entrepreneurship.
8. Sericulture and apiculture
Assam is famous for muga, eri and pat silk. Sericulture and beekeeping are practical career and business options.
9. Healthcare and clinical research
Clinical research, lab technology and public health courses open doors to hospitals and pharma companies.
10. Science communication
Writing, photography, YouTube and museum work are growing fields for people who love animals and can explain science well.
